Hi friends!
It’s been a minute, but I promise it’s because I’ve been working on some exciting new projects, and I’m finally ready to share.
Firstly, I want to share how I’m rethinking communication with my community (YOU!). When it comes to emailing in the past, I’ve struggled with the reality that when I write a piece of content or share a new recipe, it often feels like I’ve sent it off into a black hole.
Some of you open my email and read it, some of you don’t. That’s okay, I don’t read all my emails either!
More on those productivity tips later…But the problem for me is the very one-sided dialogue of it all. It feels like I’m speaking at you, versus with you. And that’s not what community means, at least not to me.
So, I’m moving my communication to Substack to enable a more robust two-way discussion between you and me, and even each other. You don’t need to do anything to continue to receive my emails, but you will notice a slightly different look and feel. Most importantly, you will see there is now a place to comment and join an active conversation.
And, because this is a step towards building what I hope will be a happy thriving community, I’m going to share more of myself. What I mean by that is I’m going to show you all the different sides of me. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about being a creative person and entrepreneur –– it’s that I’m not just one thing!
That may sound obvious, especially to my Millennials out there, but allow me to explain. Gen Xers were raised in a world where we were encouraged to find one thing and specialize, ie: go to school to become a doctor or a teacher. And, I have the utmost respect for these specialists. In fact, for a long time I tried to be one of them. But, I’ve finally realized that this person isn’t me, and that’s okay! In fact, that’s probably exactly what makes me a good entrepreneur.
So, how exactly am I planning on using this platform? To talk about all my very different interests, passions, pursuits, and learnings. I’ll be covering entrepreneurship and baking to be sure, but I want to go deeper by exploring themes like mindset, addressing fear and battling imposter syndrome. I’m also going to dive into branding, including building your personal brand, social media and influencers. I’m going to spotlight startups, companies and founders I love, as well as how you, too, can become an angel investor.
But, I’m also going to share with you my struggles to stay organized and focused when I have a million creative ideas and 100 tabs open on my screen and in my brain.
Expect to hear about the joy and frustration of raising pre-teen and teenage boys. And stick around for my recommendations and tips about books, beauty and food as well as musings on friendship, creativity and optimism –– ALWAYS with a dose of humor. Because I never take myself too seriously. I’m NOT a doctor, after all.
So, I hope you will join me and help me build this beautiful network. Please share your questions, tips and advice. Help me get to know you too!
Currently this newsletter will be free, but in the future, I might add an element for a small subscription fee, but that’s for another day … and just one of my many 1000’s of ideas I always have brewing.
So, welcome to my brain a little bit. I hope you’ll join me for some community and conversation.
XO
Candace
